Work quirkies
OOooo...my new office is almost ready and I'll be putting up some sneak piccies here soon. Now blogging from the office and these are some interesting observations I have picked up:1) It's only 4 pm, but almost all the staff have disappeared! It's true we end at 4 since it's the term break now but strangely Malaysians are quite punctual on this! ;) I still have loads to unpack and sort things out, guess I took some KL work ethics along: must stay back-lah!
2) Did you know we are quite efficient when it comes to words?
e.g A Mat Salleh: Would you be so kind to pass me the fax at the reception on your way up to my office?
A typical Malaysian: Oi, remember to pass me the fax!
Another version: You pass the fax-lah!
3) Terrorisme paranoia is alive and kicking here among the Mat Salleh community; an expat teacher said he would not reveal his status working here.
Reason: "Let's face it, this is Malaysia..and there are terrorists around here and it's NOT safe! I wouldn't want to be kidnapped!"
Hmm..the last time I check, the 'terrorists' have yet to kidnap anyone in this blessed country and Penang is not Bali...I guess he didn't teach geography!
Disclaimer: To be politically correct, the above served as a slice of humour to brighten up the typical Malaysian's day at work. It was never meant to offend any of our fair-haired brethren.
Malaysian version: I joking oni!
Cheers!
